A row of new brick houses under scaffold on a building site, with standards standing above the roofline

Residential, commercial, industrial, access, edge protection

Scaffolding services across Doncaster.

Five kinds of work, each planned round the trade that will stand on it. Find yours, then tell Ian the job.

Boarded scaffold lift with blue brick guards across the front of a two storey brick house with solar panels on the roof
First lift across a front elevation. Drawn: two lifts, one elevation.

Residential scaffolding

Houses, bungalows and terraces, for the trades working on them.

Most house jobs start with someone else's trade: a roofer who needs to get to the ridge, a renderer who needs the whole gable, a window fitter who needs both hands free upstairs.

Tell us what the work is and who is doing it. The scaffold is planned round that job, so the lift is at the height they need and the boards are where they will stand.

Often asked for

  • Roof repairs and re-roofs
  • Chimney work
  • Rendering, painting and pointing
  • Windows, gutters and solar

A run of plots under scaffold. Drawn: three lifts, a full run.

Commercial scaffolding

For builders and developers who need plots scaffolded as the brickwork goes up.

On a building site the scaffold has to keep pace with the bricklayers. Lifts go on as the walls rise, and the next plot is ready when the gang moves across.

Send the drawings or walk Ian round the site, and you get a price for the job in front of him.

Often asked for

  • New build housing
  • Extensions and conversions
  • Shops and units
  • Plot by plot programmes

Scaffold boards laid tight on a working lift in bright sun, with standards rising past a blockwork wall
Boards down, standards up. Drawn: one wide working platform.

Industrial scaffolding

Bigger structures and working platforms, built to the job in front of us.

Industrial work is rarely a straight run along a wall. It is a platform where one is needed, built round whatever is already there.

Ring Ian with what you need to reach and what is in the way. If it is a job for S.I.R, he will tell you. If it is not, he will tell you that too.

Often asked for

  • Working platforms
  • Yards and units
  • Maintenance access
  • Awkward structures

Scaffold around the gable of a new brick house, with two boarded lifts and a ladder up to the top, under a grey sky
Two boarded lifts round a gable. Drawn: a tower, one bay wide.

Access solutions

Towers, ladder bays and frames, for when the job is one spot, not a whole building.

Not every job needs a scaffold all the way round. Sometimes it is a tower at one gable, a frame round a doorway or a safe way up to a lift that is already there.

Say what you need to get to. A smaller scaffold is a smaller price.

Often asked for

  • Towers at a gable or chimney
  • Ladder access bays
  • Frames round doors and openings
  • One elevation only

Boarded lift with toe boards and blue brick guards running along the rear of a new brick house
Toe boards and brick guards on. Drawn: guard rails and toe boards on the top lift.

Edge protection

Guard rails and toe boards along a roof or an open edge, for work that happens at the top.

Some jobs do not need a working scaffold up the wall. The work is on the roof itself, and what is needed is a rail round the edge of it while the trade is up there.

Tell Ian what the edge is, how far it runs and how people get up to it. The rail and the way up are priced as one job.

Often asked for

  • Flat roof work
  • Roof edges for re-roofs and solar
  • Open floor edges on new builds
  • Guard rails, toe boards and brick guards

Priced to the job

What changes the price of a scaffold.

There is no price list, because no two buildings are the same. These four things are what Ian is weighing up.

1234
  1. 1

    Height

How many lifts it takes to reach the work. A bungalow gutter and a three storey gable are different scaffolds.

  2. 2

    Length

How far round the building it runs. One elevation, a corner, or all four sides.

  3. 3

    Time

How long it stays up. Tell Ian how long the trade expects to be on it.

  4. 4

    What is in the way

A conservatory to bridge, a sloping drive, a narrow passage, or a pavement that needs a licence.

Scaffolding questions, answered.

What changes the price of a scaffold?

Four things: how high it goes, how far round the building it runs, how long it stays up, and what is in the way. A conservatory to bridge, a sloping drive or a scaffold that stands on the pavement all add work.

Does a scaffold on the pavement need a licence?

Yes. A scaffold that stands on a public pavement or road needs a licence from the council before it goes up. Mention it when you ask for a price so it is allowed for from the start.

Can I just have one side of the house scaffolded?

Yes. Plenty of jobs only need one elevation, a gable or a tower at the chimney. Say exactly what needs reaching and the scaffold is priced for that and nothing more.

My roofer has asked me to sort the scaffold. What do I tell you?

What the roofer is doing, which part of the roof, and when they want to start. Better still, give Ian the roofer's number. Two trades talking for five minutes saves a scaffold going up a lift too low.
